On Sunday, March 11, 2018, his Eminence the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the Holy Church of Saint Konstantinos and Helen in Koulines.
In his preaching, the Bishop of Corfu commented on the Epistle Reading of the day, Saint Paul’s Epistle to Jewish, mentioning that Jesus Christ is the eternal Archierach. With his Crucification, he saved us from the curse of the law and during the Divine Liturgy He is the one who gives and is given. In the Divine Liturgy we live in actual time the voluntarily Passion of our Lord, the Crucifixion, the Burial, his Resurrection from the dead, his Ascension to the sky and also the unending eighth day of the Kingdom of the Sky. Saint Paul encourages us to pray with boldness and humbleness at the same time. Unfortunately, the modern human speaks with boldness but at the same time he/she has a bottomless audacity, promoting his/her own self.
Moreover, Mr. Nektarios, referring to the Holy Cross, noted that our Holy Church promotes, in the middle of the Great Lent, the symbol of the sacrifice and love of our Lord, for the salvation of the world, so that the faithful Christians get strength in the struggle they give. The Holy Cross is the pride of Christians, the wounds of the demons, the symbol of victory and Resurrection. Each of us is called by Christ to lift his/her own cross and follow the Lord. The basic requirement of lifting the cross is to cut off our own will and realize the divine one in our lives.
In his closing, his Eminence wished the faithful Christians to take strength from the Holy Cross of the Lord, in order to continue their struggle against the passions and the evil.
It should be noted that at the end of the Divine Liturgy, his Eminence ordained as an Archdeacon the monk Father Christodoulos Triantafyllos.
