On Sunday, May 27,2018 his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the Metropolitan Church of Virgin Mary the Spilaiotissa.
In his preaching, his Eminence analysed the Gospel’s reading of the day and mentioned that Jesus Christ went to the Church of Jerusalem on the last day of Skinopigia, when the Jews celebrated their forty days wandering in the Desert of Sinai before entering the Promised Land. Then the blessing of the water takes place in the pool of Siloam, which reminded them their entrance to the Land of Canaan. This water was poured as an offer to the to the altar of the temple, remembering the miracle that God did in the Desert, and the Jews quenched their thirst when Moses struck the rock with his rod and poured water.
Christ takes the occasion from this feast and says that He is the “inexhaustible source of life” and whoever drinks from “the living God” will not go away again. This water is the Paraclete, the third person of the Holy Trinity, the Holy Ghost and Spirit, the source of our life. On the day of the Pentecost, on the day of the Pentecost, the Paraclete descended on the heads of the Holy Apostles, in the form of fire tongues, the fire of Godhead.
In addition, the Eminence emphasized that unfortunately today people “approach” the sources of wastewater in order to defeat their thirst. These unclean waters are sermons, sects, and whatever cuts man away from communion with God. This unclean water poisons both the soul and the body, eventually leading the man to death. That is why all of us need to have our spiritual senses open, living against God.
In conclusion, Mr. Nektarios wished the Holy Spirit to give enlightenment, repentance and to strengthen people in these difficult moments that humanity experiences.
