On Sunday, September 2, 2018, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the Holy Metropolitan Church of Virgin Mary the Spilaiotissa.
In his speech, the Bishop of Corfu analysed the Gospel’s Reading of the day and he connected it to the one of last week, since these two introduce the Great Feast of the Elevation of the Venerable and Life-giving Holy Cross..
Our lord compares the kingdom of heaven to a king who gave a marriage feast for his son. The ones invited to the feast not only did not come but they made light of it and went off, one to his farm, another to his business, while the rest seized his servants, treated them shamefully, and killed them, like they also did to the Prophets of the Old Testament.
The descendants of these murderers, put His Only Son to the Cross. The king of the parabole is the God Father and the son is Jesus Christ.
We are all invited to the celebrating feast, that is the Holy Communion. The Lord is the one who gives and is given for the life and salvation of this world.
For us, the baptised ones in the name of the Holy Trinity, Holy Communion is the Centre of our lives. In order to take part in the mystery of mysteries, we need to have God’s fear, that isrespect to Christ, faith, that is trust to Him and most importantly, love both for God and our fellow people.
With the aforementioned “vehicles” the faithful can communicate with the Lord of Glory.
Moreover, his Eminence underlined that the Kingdom of Heaven is not a place where humans enjoy the delights of this world, as Muslims say.
On the contrary, the Kingdom of Heaven is a condition of heart, through which, humans communicate lovingly with their Creator, their minds are lightened by the Uncreated Light and they glorify Lord with His Angels and Saints. In short, in the Kingdom of Heaven, the likeness to God takes place.
In his closing, Mr. Nektarios invited the faithful to fight on a daily basis against temptation, sins and the mean situation, living at the same time a life according to the Will of the Heavenly Father.
