On Saturday morning, March 10, 2018, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the Holy Monastery of Virgin Mary the Kassopitra. During the Divine Liturgy, he did the ordination to a deacon of Mr. Angelos Kontoutsis, married, father of a daughter who will serve the local Church without a salary.
In his preach, the newly ordained mentioned two miracles of the Lady Theotokos and Saint Spyridon that agitated him and showed him the way of serving our Lord through Priesthood.
Moreover, the newly ordained thanked his Eminence to whom he promised that with God’s help he will be worthy of this difficult and tiring mission that he undertakes. This mission includes above all the salvation of people.
Furthermore, he thanked his spiritual father, Archimandrite father Polykarpos Zervos, abbot of the Holy Monastery of Virgin Mary the Kassopitra, the Archimandrite father Ioustinos Konstantas, Chancellor of the Holy Metropolis of Corfu as well as his relatives.
The next one to talk was Mr. Nektarios who underlined the importance of this moment during which, the Holy Spirit enters to the newly ordained and fills him with the Divine Grace. Deacons and next Priests become endless “springs” of Christ. This event of the Pentecost made the Holy Apostles part of the Divine Knowledge.
His Eminence continued by saying that there is no bigger miracle than the Divine Communion and the Mystery of Priesthood, to which the unworthy human lends his/her hands to the Almighty of this universe. In order for the miracle to be felt, a purity of the heart and mind is needed, a giving and sacrifice of the whole self. On the contrary, whoever approaches these Sacraments with a cunning attitude, tastes the fire of hell from this world. God cannot be fooled by anyone.
In conclusion, Mr. Nektarios pointed out to father Angelos that only with repentance, humble wisdom and love in both Christ and people will attract the gifts of the Triune God.
