On the occasion of the Orthodox Christian Book Exhibition of the Holy Metropolis of Corfu in collaboration with EN PLO publications, an event took place on Tuesday afternoon, March 13, 2018, in the Spiritual Centre on the following subject: “Internet has rules and morals” based on the book: “Moral responsibility on the Internet” of Nikos Smyrnakis (PAPAZISIS Publications).
The conversation was between the author and the professor of the Ionian University Mr. Stavros Katsios. The conversation was coordinated by the Protopresbyter Father Themistoklis Mourtzanos, General Prelatic Warden of the Holy Metropolis of Corfu.
Based on the conclusions drawn from the debate, it is argued that Internet has indeed both rules and morals as long as its use is right. It is exclusively on the user. On the one hand, Internet serves modern humans and their needs but on the other hand, great attention is needed, since there are major dangers that can irreparably damage the human personality.
Mainly, we need to be briefly informed by our society and at the same time education provided for the young people and their parents. As far as Internet is concerned, parents are invited to learn from young people. However, this must not be a reason for parents not to supervise their children. A very important element that “shields” modern humans in order to face the dangers of the digital age is the moral and in general the lifestyle according to Christ, with Church being the one contributing the most to our society.
The book exhibition runs daily from 10 am to 2 am and from 5.30 pm. to 8.30 pm.
