On Friday morning, July 6, 2018, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios visited the 1st period, for girls of Primary School, of the summer camp of the local Church. This year’s programme is “SUMMER CAMP IN CORFU TOWN” because of the new building structures in Kassiopi region, where there are the summer camps of the local Church. As its basis, the Spiritual Centre of the Holy Metropolis of Corfu (Akadimias str. 2) is used and its name is MUNICIPALITY OF SAINTS being dedicated to Saints of our times.
Mr. Nektarios having expressed his great joy for the meeting of the girls, underlined the importance of Church’s mission in this world, that is the witnessing of the truth of the resurrection. Church is the one building human personalities. The ones who have acquired the role of educating young people lead them to the distortion of the truth, the lying, taking them away from the source of every good, our Christ.
Moreover, his Eminence using as his basis the Saints of our times, to which this year’s summer camps are devoted, noted that the Holy Spirit distincts every day the ones who have pleased GOd. Therefore, we do not have to fall into despair with the difficuties we are coping, but to trust CHrist.
Mr. Nektarios had a conversation with the young campers, was happy with their merriment, was informed about the various activities included in the programme “SUMMER CAMP IN CORFU TOWN” (camping atmosphere at the Spiritual Centre, crafts, competitions, narrations, meeting with Church’s life, great walks to Vlacherna, Pontikonisi, Vidos island, churches of the Old Town, Monastery of Kassopitra, Old Fortress, team games and cool company) and promised that in 2019, the local church will prepare even richer activities in the rebuilt structures in Kassiopi.
In his conclusion, the Bishop of Corfu thanked the responsible of the Youth Office of the Holy Metropolis of Corfu and General Prelatic Warden Protopresbyter father Themistoklis Mourtzanos, Protopresbyter father Spyridon Triantafyllos, his wife, Antonia Mandyla- Triantafyllou and the second in command, Evangelia Mourtzanou, responsible for the first summer camp period, along with the rest of the volunteering members, while giving blessings to the children.
