Bishop of Corfu, Mr. Nektarios: “We are deceived by the false promises of the ones in power” On Sunday, June 17, 2018, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Divine Liturgy in the celebrating church of Saint Isavros in Melikia, Lefkimmi. In his preaching, the Bishop of Corfu analysed the Epistle’s reading part of the day, from the Epistle to Romans by Saint Paul, stressing the importance of vindication through faith, through the works of our life, which is divinified by the Holy Spirit. Our faith brings hope. There comes a time when faith is hit. In this case, Saint Paul advises the Christians to be armed with patience, in order to cope with the temptation. Moreover, his Eminence underlined that the Saints of our Faith were enlightened by the above advice of Saint Paul. Saint Martyrs were armed inside with faith and hope to the Resurrected Christ, sacrificing their lives, too, imitating their Teacher. The sacrifice of the Martyrs and on this case, of Saint Isavros, continues to eternally fill the hearts of the Orthodox Christians. Moreover, Mr. Nektarios underlined the need to resist the temptations, by fighting our personal battles everyday and participating at the same time in the liturgical life of the Church. On the other hand, throughout the time, different ideologies and philosophies appear in order to eliminate humans’ problems. But any action or movement that does not primarily ask the blessing of Christ is doomed to fail. Examples of such failed attempts are infinite and we experience them intensely in our homeland. We have been deceived by the false promises of the prisoners. All we have to do is lift up our hearts to the sky and pray the Holy God to become sullen and forgive us for our apostasy. In closing his Eminence. he called upon the faithful to arrest in faith and hope in God and to treat with temptation the temptation and the sin through the embassies of Saint Isavros.
