On Easter Sunday afternoon, April 8, 2018, his Eminence, the Bishop of Corfu, Paxoi and Diapontian Islands, Mr. Nektarios did the Vesper of Love in the Metropolitan Church of Virgin Mary the Spilaiotissa.
The Gospel was read in the following languages: English, German, Italian, Latin, Swedish, Albanian, Romanian and the dialect of Homer.
In his speech, Mr. Nektarios noted that the day of Resurrection, our heart is full of unspoken joy, because internally, everyone has the certainty of hope and the personal resurrection. There is no bigger message than the one of the Resurrection, joy, hope and immortality. Only the risen Christ can give eternal joy in our hearts. Faith in the Resurrection of Christ is the connecting link of our people. It is the certainty that will take us even today, from the deadlocks we are in.
In his closing, his Eminence asked both the clergy of the local Church and the faithful to pray for the release of the two military officers who are held hostage in the high security prisons of Adrianople by the Turkish authorities, without, however, having any evidence against them.
The eternal enemy of our Nation deprives our two men of the most precious gift of God to people, freedom.
